Hamm® Model HD 120 HV
Introduced at Conexpo-Con/Agg '02, the HD 120 HV is the latest member of the HD series of double drum asphalt compactors from the Hamm® Compaction Division of Wirtgen America, Inc. This 78-inch-wide, double-drum roller has an operating weight of 26,675 lb. and boasts centrifugal forces between 38,700 and 29,025 lb., with frequency ranges of 2,520 and 3,000 vibrations per minute. As such it fills the gap between the largest Hamm® asphalt compactor, the 84-inch-wide HD 130 HV, and the 66-inch-wide HD 110 HV/110K, while utilizing all the technologically advanced features of the larger HD 130 HV. The HD 120 HV joins the existing line of large HD series models -- the HD 70 HV, HD 75 HV, HD 90 HV, HD 110 HV and HD 130 HV-- all exclusively designed for the North American market. "We have taken all of the design criteria and features of the big HD 130 HV and incorporated them into the slightly smaller HD 120," said Bruce Monical, Marketing Manager for the Hamm® Compaction Division. "This machine was designed specifically for the 78-inch-wide drum market in North America," Monical said. "All of the large HD series rollers feature a compact, low profile, low center of gravity, swiveling and rotating operator's seat and excellent visibility to the drum edges and surfaces and to the water spray system." Users will benefit from built-in design features that boost productivity and operator capabilities. For example, the HD 120 HV -- like all of the large HD series of rollers -- features a true 50:50 articulation with the ability to hydraulically offset to either side the front drum from the rear drum by 3.5 inches. "The ability to offset the front from the rear has several benefits, such as better maneuverability around existing curbs and gutters or building foundations, reduced roller marks, and single drum compaction on joints," Monical said. Exceptional quality and high performance are hallmarks of all of the Hamm® HD series machines. A high degree of visibility, easy operator controls and layout, powerful compactive performance, and a reliable, protected water spray system all are incorporated into the HD 120 HV. "One of the key features of all of the large HD rollers from Hamm® is that the water spray bars are inside the frame of the roller," Monical said. "This means they are protected from any damage that may occur if they were outside the frame and exposed. And because of the location of the spray bars and water nozzles, the water is going directly on the drum where the operator wants it." Also, because of the frame design and location of the water tanks and spray bars, the operator has a view of the top of the drum and all of the spray nozzles.
